Denver, Ind. (March 12, 2012)—The North Miami FFA Dairy Team is one step closer to participating in a prestigious international dairy event thanks to a $500 donation from Brodbeck Seeds. Team members are raising funds to attend the 2012 Royal Highland Livestock Show in Edinburgh, Scotland, and participate in a study tour of United Kingdom agricultural operations.
The team was also invited to participate in the 2011 Royal Highland Livestock Show, but narrowly missed attending when another FFA chapter’s fundraising efforts claimed the final spot. Undaunted, the 2012 team, comprised of North Miami seniors Kyleigh See, Michael Fouts, Bryant See and junior Alisha Towner, along with FFA Chapter Advisor Glen Jones, is raising funds with hopes of participating in this summer’s event.
Brodbeck Seeds General Manager Jim Engelberth said Brodbeck Seeds is proud to be an early contributor to the North Miami FFA Dairy Team’s 2012 fundraising goal. “The accomplishments of these students exemplify Brodbeck’s commitment to going the distance and doing whatever it takes to achieve agricultural excellence,” Engelberth said.
He noted that the Royal Highland Livestock Show and study tour will provide an opportunity for students to experience how livestock farmers around the world are addressing the demands of 21st century agriculture. “FFA plays a huge role in preparing future agricultural leaders. As farmers around the world strive to feed a growing population, the business of agriculture is becoming increasingly global,” Engelberth said.
The North Miami FFA chapter has a long tradition of being very competitive in career development events. They won the 2011 State FFA competition and earned high team scores at the Area FFA and State FFA competitions. The team is conducting a variety of fundraisers to assist with trip expenses as well as accepting donations from individuals and businesses.
